/>

The new word of the day is "deem." Miriam Webster defines "deem" as:

To come to think or judge (consider)

To have an opinion (believe)

Why this interest in the word "deem." In case you hadn't heard, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is considering using a "Deem and Pass" strategy to effectively pass health care without even allowing a vote on the actual bill.

Here is how it works. The House Rules Committee will put together some amendments to the Senate health care bill. Once the committee approves the amendments, it will go back to the Senate for them to vote on the amendments. Once the Senate approves the amendments, by a simple majority, then it will go to President Obama's desk, where he is expected to sign it into law.

Notice anything absent from this process? When does the member of the House that you duly elected to represent you get to vote on the bill? Answer: He doesn't. In order for this process to be implemented, the House has to "deem" the Senate bill to have passed the house.

How is the process supposed to work? The House comes up with a bill and votes on it. The Senate comes up with a bill and passes it. These two things have already happened. Since there are significant differences in the two bills, under normal circumstances, members of both bodies of Congress come together in what is called a conference call, and hash out a bill that they think will pass both bodies of Congress. This revised bill then goes back to both bodies of Congress for a vote, and if it passes, then it goes to the President's desk for his signature.

Why is Pelosi going with the "Deem and Pass" strategy? Because going through the normal Constitutional process will likely result in the bill being killed. The Senate, which lost its super majority when Massachusetts elected Scott Brown to the Senate, would likely stop the process, either by blocking the conference call or by blocking the revised bill in a filibuster. By passing a law without allowing a vote, Pelosi is effectively eliminating both chances for the Senate to block the bill.

So what's the big deal? Well, Article I, Section 7 of the US Constitution states:

"But in all such Cases the Votes of both Houses shall be determined by Yeas and Nays, and the Names of the Persons voting for and against the Bill shall be entered on the Journal of each House respectively."

That's right. What Pelosi and the Democrats are planning to do is blatantly unconstitutional.

It really isn't that complicated. In fact, even a child can understand it:

Hey Speaker Pelosi and the rest of the Democrats! Watch the above video over and over again until you understand it.

The Green Police: Enviro-Nazi Utopia

If you were one of the 100+ million viewers who watched the New Orleans Saints beat the Indianapolis Colts in Superbowl XLIV (YEAH BABY! In the book, the authors write:

"He [Reid] was wowed by Obama's oratorical gifts and believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama -- a 'light-skinned' African American 'with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."

The first question that came to my mind when I heard these comments is: Does Reid believe that light-skinned African Americans who do not speak with a "Negro dialect" are somehow more qualified to be President of the United States? Or does Reid believe that the American people are so racist that they would not even consider voting for an African American unless he or she passes the paper bag test? The second question that comes to mind is: Does it matter? Either he's a racist who believes that only light-skinned blacks are qualified, or he he believes the majority of the American people, i.e. white people, are racist and believe that only light-skinned blacks are qualified. Who does he hate more: blacks or whites?

As expected, Reid is getting a pass from the state-run media. The general tone is: He apologized to the President. The President accepted. Conversation over. Even those who find racism everywhere on God's green Earth are giving Reid a pass.

This is nothing new.

Remember these words of wisdom?

"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American presidential candidate who is articulate and bright and clean-cut and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a storybook, man." -- Joe Biden on Barack Obama

I guess according to Biden, black people are not normally articulate, bright, clean-cut or nice-looking.

Doesn't it seem like Reid and Biden think that Barack Obama's best quality is that he's not "too black?"

And then there's the LA Times column, "Obama the 'Magic Negro'"? In contrast to Reid's and Biden's remarks, this column was not complementary about Obama. Rather, it was critical of the fact that we had an African American candidate who was not "authentic" enough.

So to the left, Obama was a either good choice because he's not "too black," or he was a bad choice because he was not "too black." Well at least they agree on something. I'm sorry, where does he stand on the issues again?

David Ehrenstein got a pass from the press (and Sharpton) for his comments just like Biden and Reid. But when conservative radio talk show host, Rush Limbaugh, played a song parody, "Barack the Magic Negro," sung by commedian Paul Shanklin, the critical rain of fire that fell on Limbaugh from the state-run media made no mention of the LA Times column on which it was based. Rather the criticism was focused at Limbaugh and "white comedian Paul Shanklin," who sang the song impersonating Al Sharpton singing to the tune of, "Puff the Magic Dragon" through a megaphone. Haha... Sorry, I still find it funny. But I digress.

Will Reid resign? I would bet money that he will not. And I am glad about that. I would rather see him lose his seat Tom Daschle style.

Janet Napolitano Acknowledges the System Did Not Work

Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, has finally acknowledged that the system did not work in direct contrast to her statements on CNN's "State of the Union." Well, duh.

On Christmas Day, Nigerian Muslim extremist Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab boarded Northwest Airlines Flight 253 armed with the powerful liquid explosive, pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN) and attempted to blow up the plane. He failed because the syringe he was using to detonate the explosive failed. Oh system how did you not work? Let me count the ways.

PETN was widely used to blow up airplanes in the 70's and 80's and is easily detectable. Why was it not discovered on Abdulmutallab?

Abdulmutallab was not on the "no fly" list despite the fact that his own father had warned the US embasy in Lagos about his son's extreme views. Cat Stevens may want to appeal.

Abdulmutallab boarded paid for his $2,831 round-trip ticket with cash and boarded the plane with only a small carry-on. Red flag, anyone?

Now Abdulmutallab has been mirandized and will exercise his right to a criminal trial with a jury of his "peers." Since he is not designated an enemy combattant by the Obama administration, he cannot be interrogated for useful information like... I don't know, did anyone recruit him for this mission? If so, who? Where did he get the PETN? Where did he get the cash to buy the ticket? Nope, he will just get his soapbox to preach his hatred of the infidels, probably be convicted, and because of a faulty syringe that prevented him from murdering hundreds of innocent men, women and children, will not be sentenced to die.

Don't you feel safer now?
<img width='1' height='1' With the revelation that the entire foundation of climate change theory was corrupted, we can now start exercising the freedoms that make this country such a great place to live... freedoms like buying whatever car we damn well please, even if it is a huge, over-sized, gas-guzzling SUV that we will never take off road. Freedoms like turning our thermostats down to 68 in the summer while leaving the door wide open if we feel like it. Yes Dad, I am air conditioning the neighborhood. For those who haven't heard, and if you rely solely on the mainstream media for your news, you probably have not heard, hackers broke into the computers at East Anglia's Climate Research Unit (CRU) and released 61 megabytes of confidential files, including emails from some of the most prominent "scientists" pushing the global warming hoax. As stated by James Delingpole in his blog, "When you read some of those files – including 1079 emails and 72 documents – you realise just why the boffins at CRU might have preferred to keep them confidential." These documents suggest: "Conspiracy, collusion in exaggerating warming data, possibly illegal destruction of embarrassing information, organised resistance to disclosure, manipulation of data, private admissions of flaws in their public claims and much more."

Say whaaaaaat?
Yes Al, your movie that won you an academy award and a Nobel Peace Prize, that move about how we were destroying the planet, is based entirely on a total corruption of science. Talk about "an inconvenient truth!"

Those of us who have been global warming skeptics ever since the entire ridiculous theory came out have always believed global warming supporters were exhibiting a sort of cult-like religious fervor that had nothing to do with science. Science is supposed to be a search for the truth based on actual evidence, not a political campaign to manipulate data, bully skeptics into silence, and flat out lie to get some result that you want. Those released files now prove that the latter was actually the case.

Junk science dot com has long debunked the myth of global warming in their report, The Real 'Inconvenient Truth'. The report addresses questions that anyone interested in truth should be in, such as:

Does the Earth's atmosphere primarily behave like an actual greenhouse?

Is the so-called 'greenhouse effect' bad?

How much does the so-called 'greenhouse effect' warm the Earth?

Do greenhouse gases trap the sun's radiation/heat?

Is greenhouse all about carbon dioxide?

Is carbon dioxide (what we exhale and what feeds plant life) pollution?

Are we responsible for all the carbon dioxide 'greenhouse effect?'

How much does carbon dioxide heat the earth?

Where do the big warming estimates come from?

The answers to these questions might surprise you. Don't look for these questions to be answered in the mainstream media. They have been corrupted to the same extent that we just discovered science has been corrupted.

"In an odd way this is cheering news," to quote one of the aforementioned emails reacting to the death of global warming skeptic John Daly. Now we don't have to worry about our President and all the other wacko socialists around the globe pursuing a "solution" to the fictional problem of climate change, right? Wrong! The climate change meeting in Copenhagen is still happening, and our President is still going. Obama has announced a US-India Green Partnership, whatever the hell that is, with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

I am guessing these socialists will continue to live in the fantasy world where human beings are causing the planet to warm catastrophically until the mainstream media has no choice but to follow on Fox News' coattails (like they did with ACORN) and actually report what is the biggest scientific story since it was first discovered the Earth was indeed not flat.

But I guess the flat-earthers were as much a cult as the global warming crowd.

Don't throw away that golf cart just yet.

Hydrogen Barackside

<img style="display:block; Who is H8'ing?

I would like to make a confession... I follow the Kardashians on Twitter... well, Kim, Khloe and Kourtney anyway. There, I said it! It's out there, for all to see. Actually it's been out there since my Twitter account isn't exactly private, but you get the picture. I just find them interesting and kooky in a funny sort of way. Plus, Kim is a Saints fan, so I have to admire that.

But this doesn't have anything to do with the subject of this blog entry. I only mention it because I was getting Tweets from all three of them regarding this NOH8 campaign to overturn California's Proposition 8. Proposition 8, which was approved by California voters in a general election in November, 2008, added a new section to the California Constitution that reads, "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." This passage effectively overturned the previous California Supreme Court's ruling that same-sex couples had the right to marry.

NOH8, pronounced, "No hate," (clever, huh) is a silent protest where celebrities get their pictures taken with duct tape over their mouths and, "NOH8" written somewhere on their faces or bodies. I won't waste space showing hundreds of pics here. Click here, and you'll get the idea.

Of course, the entire premise of the campaign is that the people who oppose the re-definition of marriage to include same sex couples are "hating." Once again, the left either misses the point, or they purposely twist the point of their opponents.

I was watching Hannity on Fox News last weekend, and he had a liberal (admittedly so) college professor on as a guest, and she referred to Carrie Prejean's comments at the 2009 Miss USA pageant as "bigoted." For those who did not see it or hear about it, Prejean was asked by Perez Hilton about her opinion on same sex marriage. Here is what she said:

"Well I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one way or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And, you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there. But that’s how I was raised and I believe that it should be between a man and a woman."

Could she have watered down her language any more than she did? It wasn't that her comments were bigoted. It was that her opinion was unpopular with the celebrity crowd. The problem the celebrity crowd is facing is that Prejean's opinion is shared by the vast majority of Americans, including the President and Vice-President of the United States. I'm still waiting for a liberal to refer to either of them as bigoted. In the case of Biden, they might have a point...

...but not because of his opinion on re-defining marriage.

You hear slogans about hate, love for all, etc. But what is this really about? Love? There's no law in any state against "loving" anyone. There are laws that restrict what adults do in their own bedrooms, and I oppose such laws. I believe they are invasions of privacy that no government, state, local or federal, should be engaged in. But re-defining marriage is something that is totally different. No one is stopping same-sex couples from committing their lives to each other and living together in a monogamous relationship. They are free to do that and should be free to do that. What we are talking about here is all the legal mumbo jumbo associated with getting married, the stuff the lawyers love when couples split up. And when you boil it all down, it's really about forcing employers to provide benefits to same sex partners of employees. And that would be wrong. As it would be wrong to change the definition of marriage to go along with the pop culture trend of the day.

But according to the left, I, Carrie Prejean, the President, Vice-President, and the overwhelming majority of Americans are bigots for sharing this opinion. But who is really guilty of hate on this side? Google "Perez Hilton Carrie Prejean" and compare Hilton's comments about Prejean with her "bigoted" comments at the Miss USA Pageant.

Now tell me which side is guilty of "H8?"

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://badandy167-speaks-out.blogspot.com/2009/11/noh8-who-is-h8ing.html' title='NOH8? That means Jefferson, who is currently 62 years old, will not see the outside of a prison until he is 75 years old. He was not immediately taken into custody, like the rest of us undoubtedly would have been, but is allowed to remain free pending a hearing on Wednesday to determine whether Jefferson is a flight risk.

Let me get this straight. If we need a hearing to determine whether Jefferson is a flight risk, doesn't that mean that Jefferson might be a flight risk? And if he is a flight risk, doesn't that mean he might flee before the hearing on Wednesday? I guess if Jefferson has not disappeared before Wednesday, the argument will be, "He's still here, isn't he?"

For those who are not familiar with Jefferson's antics, he was found guilty on 11 of 16 charges of public corruption, featuring the infamous discovery of $90,000 in the freezer of his home, which of course led to various commentators and talk show hosts referring to him as Cold Cash and Dollar Bill Jefferson.

My favorite part of this whole case, other than the conviction and sentencing, of course, is when Jefferson used, as his defense, the argument that he was not acting as a member of Congress when he accepted those bribes. I guess Rob Blagojavich wasn't acting as governor when he tried to sell Barack Obama's Senate seat either... except that if he wasn't governor, he couldn't appoint Obama's replacement. So I guess that wouldn't work for him. And it didn't work for Jefferson either.

Jefferson's lawyers will argue that Jefferson should remain free on bond pending appeal. That is expected to fail, which means Dollar Bill could be going to prison for a very long time... unless, of course, he turns out to be a flight risk after all and disappears before the Wednesday hearing. Either way, I guess it's Sayonara, Bill!

Joseph Cao the only Republican for Obamacare

Well, you got Obamacare passed, Madame Speaker. And you did it without a single Republican... Wait a minute! What's this? You had one loan Republican vote for it? It must've been one of those RINO's from the Northeast, right? No, ladies and gentlemen, it was Joseph Cao of New Orleans.

Mr. Cao, what the hell are you thinking? If you learned anything from the history of politics, you know that the Democrats will always hate you no matter what, and now the Republicans will too. What, you think those racist so-called "reverends" in New Orleans who tried to have you recalled will now embrace you in 2010? Do you really think Nancy Pelosi or Barack Obama will put in an appearance for you? Did the Democrats rally to support Bush 41 when he gave into Democrats and raised taxes? Did Colin Powell support John McCain for being exactly the kind of candidate that Powell said the Republican Party needed?

I could be wrong, but I think we'll be seeing you back in the private sector next year, Mr. Cao.

Shooter Yelled, "God is great!" before Opening Fire

Survivors are saying that Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan shouted, "Allahu Akbar!" which means, "God is Great!" in arabic before opening fire on soldiers at Fort Hood. The question I have to ask is: How many attacks on this country, both on the homeland and abroad, carried out by Muslims who make it clear that their religion is the driving force behind their actions, have to occur before the main stream media takes its head out of the sand and believes the very enemy it is trying to protect. And should Obama get involved in those campaigns? I'll let the talking heads throw those questions around. I'm more interested in discussing what this means for all the blue dogs in the House who are up for re-election next year.

The message is clear, blue dogs. Nancy Pelosi is not your boss. Barack Obama is not your boss. You answer to the voters in your districts. If you are planning on selling out this country by turning over one sixth of the economy to the bloated federal government in the interest of party loyalty, you will have the chance to make all kinds of creative excuses during next years' campaign. Is you crazy?

I'm driving home tonight listening to my favorite local talk show host on Rush Radio, John Osterlind. He is the guy who broadcast his show from the parking lot of Betsy's Pancake House directly across from ACORN's New Orleans headquarters as a protest to their child sex slave money laundering scandal. Anyway, I'm listening to him, and he says (paraphrasing) that in this day and age, to attract younger voters, maybe the Republicans should just "drop" their stance on social issues like abortion and gay marriage, and just focus on getting Washington out of our lives. That's what young Republicans care about, says Osterlind. Just put the social issues on the back burner and stop lecturing them.

Oh, Dear God, where do I begin?

First of all, by "put the social issues on the back burner," he means, "Who am I to tell a teenage girl she has to have a baby after she's been raped by some monster?" In other words, just take the pro-choice side of the issue, i.e. become like the Democrats.

John, there's no such thing as dropping the abortion issue. You can't do it. Abortion is legal, and everyone, including you, has an opinion on that. Some, like you, are fine with it, and some, like me and caller Steve "on the cell," are not OK with it. A national political candidate can try to not make it a central issue, but at some point, he will be asked his opinion, and he will have to take a side. Any side he takes has the potential to attract some voters and distance others. As caller Steve pointed out, those who care about this issue are overwhelmingly pro-life. As a purely strategic issue, that makes "dropping the issue" and becoming like Democrats a losing strategy. And forget about the whole notion of just abandoning your principles in the interest of strategy. As a matter of integrity, is it ever a good idea to abandon your principles for political expediency? If so, who can blame a certain candidate who attends a racist, America-hating church for 20 years and then abandons it and pretends he didn't hear anything for 20 years, all for political expediency?

I have another question: Can you name even one time, at least on a national level, when the Republican Party became more like the Democrat Party and won? Let's see, was it when they chose Gerald Ford over Ronald Regan in 1976? How about when Bush 41 went back on his promise not to raise taxes? What about when they nominated the "great compromiser," Bob Dole in 1996? I know! It was when they nominated that maverick John McCain in 2008! Now that was a moderate even Colin Powell could get behind! Hmmm.

John, you have allowed the state-run media to frame the debate. The Republican stance on the abortion issue is to get Washington out of our lives. Overturning Roe v. Wade would not make abortion illegal. It would simply take the issue out of Washington and put it in the hands of the states, where it belongs.

By the way, Ronald Reagan won two national elections in a landslide. Is there any question where Ronald Regan stood on the abortion issue?

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://badandy167-speaks-out.blogspot.com/2009/11/drop-abortion-issue-john-is-you-crazy.html' title='Drop the Abortion Issue, John? In New Jersey, a state known for consistently sending Democrats back into public office, why does the president feel the need to campaign for a governor who, by all accounts, should be a shoe-in? Two reasons: (1) Because Corzine is in trouble and (2) Obama sees this race as an early referendum on his presidency.

OK, so we know Corzine is in trouble. The polls have Corzine and Christie neck and neck. Corzine has resorted to ridiculous campaign ads that target (get ready for this) Christie's weight. Apparently New Jersey voters are less likely to vote for an overweight candidate. Well, at least they care about the important issues of the day, like taxes or corruption. Oh wait, maybe they do care about those things, since Corzine, who should be winning in this heavily Democrat state, almost immediately raised property taxes - oh, you mean those property taxes he promised to cut? - and is riddled with corruption charges. I guess Democrats do care about taxes when their pet liberal issues actually affect their pocket books.

But what about the Corzine election being a referendum on the Obama presidency? Corzine is said to be hated in New Jersey. His approval rating is around 50%, so he needs the support of a popular president... wait a minute! The latest Rasmussen poll has the president's approval rating at 46%. How can the president help Governor Corzine when President Obama's own approval rating is lower than Corzine's. Well, the polls vary, but most show it in the upper 60's in New Jersey. But here's the question: Does Obama really want to associate himself with a corrupt, lying governor?

Oops! Never mind.

If Corzine can be kicked out of the New Jersey governor's mansion, what does that mean for the 39 governorships up for grabs next year? Hard to tell, but it doesn't look good for the Democrats.

Until next time...

Welcome!

After plodding through political forums about everything from politics to race, having been banned countless times by the powerless delicate little flowers who masquerade as moderators so they can have some semblance of control over their meaningless lives, I decided to start this blog to get my opinion out there to the masses that I know miss me and have been dying to drink from my vast fountain of knowledge.

Notice I said, "my opinion." I will not be reporting the news. I will be reporting my opinion about the news. This blog is about my opinion. That opinion will have a conservative slant. I am strongly federalist in my thinking, so expect to see a lot of posts on the federal government and their blatant abuse of the enumerated powers it was given by The Constitution of the United States. I am sure I will have a lot to write about on that topic in the next 3 years and 3 months. I am also a staunch supporter of private property rights and individual liberty, so if these topics generate the usual heart paplitations, feelings of anxiety, and general hysteria all too commonly present in the liberal brain when a he or she hears or reads conservative ideas, you may want to get your information elsewhere. This is strong medicine. You have been warned.

If you are still reading, then welcome! I look forward to taking this journey with you.
